Winter Wonder

January 20, 2013

IMG_1670There has been snow on the ground around home for well over a month, We’ve been frolicking (and slipping and sliding) about this winter wonderland.  The intense cold is unusual for this area, even though the calendar assures us that it is winter.  The clean, bright white of a snow covered landscape never fails to remind me of tabla raza or blank slate.  When the temperature rises and the snow recedes, we like that which is green and growing are presented with a fresh start.

Until spring graces us with her arrival, I seek to warm myself with tiny wonders.   The hoar frost, clinging to the trees, after a cold, clear night or this beautiful barn owl we spotted around the house this afternoon, a perfect addition to the white landscape.  Taking pleasure in these uniquely winter sights, reminds me to be present within the season despite the burning cold in my fingers and feet.

This evening we’ve got the fire going, our bellies are full, and our hearts or warm.  I hope this finds you all well and warm, as well.  Keep looking for the little wonders.

Beautiful to see from my laptop. I’m so glad I’m not experiencing that cold. We just recently had 4-5 days of temps below 50 and I was housebound most of the time cuz of the cold. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.

We’re feeling the cold as well here in Harper (Oregon) -5 as I write this. The cows are calving now, and the worry of cold babies floods our minds.

Beautiful! I LOVE owls. We are a little warmer here and the wind has taken our snow away as usual. Stay warm! :)

Thank you, Leah. I don’t know what it is about owls, but I find myself positively giddy when I see one.
